Being a mom is hard. There are fights to stop, endless questions to answer, diapers to change, messy floors to clean, and food to make (seriously, for being so tiny, kids eat A LOT). It is downright exhausting, both physically and mentally, to take care of children. Too often, we as moms don’t take a step back when we need one.
As a company founded by and started for women, Pink Papaya knows we forget to take time for ourselves. I love their tagline “Inner Balance, Outer Beauty”, which entails providing a much needed “ahh” moment for women on a daily basis. Many of their natural spa and beauty products encourage a relaxing experience, but they have also created and introduced “spa moments” as a way for women to take a step back and de-stress. So when you are being pushed to your limit (or maybe you are well past your limit), here are some quick and easy ways to add a “spa moment” to your day to help you unwind. Don’t be afraid to try these as you read along!
1) FLAWLESS
This is an easy one to do while you are getting ready for the day. Take a dab of your moisturizer (I hope you use one with SPF! And if not, then you really should!) and with both hands gently massage it from the top of your ear down to the ear lobe. As a bonus, the SPF will protect your ears, often a forgotten area, from the effects of the sun. With the remaining moisturizer, lightly glide your hands through your hair and gently tug back away from your ears to release stress and tension.
2) SOUL
As the name suggests, this one is for your soul and will help restore your inner balance. Turn the palm of your left hand upward. Take the thumb of your right hand and firmly apply pressure in your left palm. Visualize sending gratitude up your arm and into your heart. Now place your left palm directly on your heart as you breathe in gratitude for something you are grateful for in your life.
3) ENERGIZE
Need a quick pick me up? Then try this easy technique. Get your kids to try it with you too! Imagine you are about to clap your hands, but instead, very quickly tap finger pads to finger pads. Repeat 3 times. It helps if you giggle while you do it!
4) SOOTHE
This one is my personal favorite. It works best if you use something with an aromatherapy scent that is calming- lavender, jasmine, vanilla, etc- but you can also use something in your favorite fragrance. Some ideas are bath salts, body wash, lotion, and perfume. To start, open the container and place a small amount in a small, lovely dish if necessary. Relax your eyes and deeply inhale the scent and all the things you are grateful for. As you exhale, let the calming scent wash away the day’s stress and create a feeling of tranquil balance. Repeat for two more cycles of restoring balance. Consider placing a lovely dish on your desk at work, in your shower, or even on your nightstand to receive a moment of calming balance throughout your day.
And because every day has its challenges, end each day with a few deep, cleansing breaths. As you inhale, breathe deeply in through your nose. As you exhale, blow out through your mouth, and release any pent up tension. Take another deep breath in, and as you exhale, let go of any stress you are feeling. Take one more deep cleansing breath and let go of any negative thoughts from your day.
Feeling better? I sure hope so! Before you go back to cleaning/changing/feeding/whatever it is that you were doing, remember that it is okay to take a moment for yourself. As the saying goes, if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy! And we all deserve to be happy mamas!
