I just started a session with 14 beautiful members, but this session is a little different for me. I just had a baby 6 weeks ago, and not only am I itching to move freely again, but I need to improve the posture and fitness I lost during and after pregnancy, which means I will not only instruct, but I will also follow the program as a participant.
I’m so excited to say that I’ll be blogging my experience throughout the program, and this is my first post!
BODY BACK WEEK 1
Fitness:
Every Body Back session starts with fitness assessments, weight, measurements, and pictures (yes, with your bare belly hanging out). I did everything, and while the numbers didn’t match what I was doing a year ago today, they were mine, and I was fine with them! My assessments exposed:
Front Plank (hold as long as possible): 1:33
1 mile run: 8:44
Bicep Curls (1 min): 23
Sit-ups (1 min): 28
Push-ups (1 min): 23
Squats (1 min): 45
Side Plank (hold as long as possible): 1:03
Weight: 157.6 lbs
Chest: 39.5″
Waist: 32.75″
Hips: 40.5″
Thigh: 25″
And… my pictures… yes, I’m showing you… ugh! Ok, here it goes:
Although very humbling, I found Assessments to be an inspiration. THIS, is my base level, and the only place I can go from here is up (as I tell all of my members). That’s good news, right?!
Other than the assessments, I did two walk/runs for 40 mins each with my FIT4MOM 5k group, and I also did much of the Clock Workout with my Body Back mamas at our normal meeting time. It’s hard to get back in the groove after baby, but I’m telling you – having other mamas with me makes all of the difference.
Nutrition:
This has always been the hardest part for me. I do eat a ton of veggies and lean meat, but at the same time, I LOVE sweets! I also love to bake… argh. As a fitness trainer, I have a lot of different tools to combat this in my head. The hard part is implementing those tools day-in-and-day-out. Let me clarify that it’s not a crime to bake, or eat a cupcake at a birthday party, or splurge on occasion, but it just won’t work well for someone who wants to lose weight (like myself). Knowing you are reading this will help me do it!
A pristine Body Back food journal has entries that look like this: “J1, D1” and “J3, S4”, etc. That nomenclature notes that the member used the prescribed food journal recipes (Journal 1, Dinner 1). When using the nutritionist-crafted recipes in the book, there’s no need to explain what was in them, because we know they are well-researched, clean choices. Easy!
I’m not going to lie – I struggled this week having family in town and not pre-planning my meals (boo me!). The great thing about it is that it is only week 1. I have 7 more weeks to knock this session out of the park!
My Meals:
I’m starting week 2 fresh! Let’s do this!

darcy says
Please do! I can’t believe we’ve had 2 babies at the same time!

Darcy, I’m looking at these pictures and I cannot even believe that you had a baby such a short time ago! Also, now I’m wondering if your post baby fit abilities are higher than my 2.5 year post baby abilities. 😉
darcy says
Too nice. I guess the only way to find out is to sweat together!
Gloria Hass says
Great!! Keep up the good work! You are doing it!

Thank you, Gloria! It’s a life-long experience, but this is a great kickstart after having my 3rd baby. I really really appreciate your support!
