Ordering Process
I went to HemmedIn.com to order. P.S. for using a Weebly site, which is pretty much a create-your-own website platform, the website is really nice! I was legitimately surprised to see that it was hosted by Weebly. [Sorry Weebly, but not everyone uses your platform well.]
It was really intuitive to order:
-Click “SHOP”
-Pick a category between:
-“Standard Prints”,
-“Designer Prints” or
-“Clearance”
-Pick:
-“It’s a Boy”,
-“It’s a Girl” or
-“Gender-Neutral” (only applicable for Standard & Designer Prints
-Click on your favorite design
-Click “Add to Cart”…it’ll pan up to “Cart” on the upper right… genius!
-Click on “Cart”
-Check-out!
Shipping Time/Packaging
I received the 3-in-1 Canopy 2 days after ordering. I live very close to the place they are manufactured, which might be part of the reason in came so quickly, but I was certainly impressed. The FAQ on the Hemmed In website mentions that products on-hand are normally shipped within 2 business days, custom orders are shipped within 2 weeks, and rush orders are permitted, but will likely incur an additional cost.
Product Quality
I was impressed by the quality of the product – the fabrics are soft to the touch (especially the red side!). It is also very well sewn and tight at the seams, which is something I look for in kid products–otherwise they don’t last very long. The patterned fabric is 100% cotton, while the underside is a very soft 100% Polyester Fleece.
Multiple Uses
Are you kidding me? Wendy of Hemmed In named her product the 3-in-1 Canopy, but since I heard that others have found more uses for it, I decided to take my hand at it. I found success with 9 uses, and I guarantee there are at least 10 more I’m missing:
1
Carseat Cover / Carseat Canopy
I’d imagine that most people find the 3-in-1 Canopy, because they are looking for a carseat cover. There are many carseat covers out there, but not many are as completely functional (and cute) as this one.
Most velcro around the carseat handle. Check!
Most cover both sides of the carseat. Check!
Most have a fleece on one side and a cotton on the other. Check!
So, what sets Hemmed In’s design apart? The front and back pieces of fabric snap together around the bottom of the handle to add incredible benefit to the parent and baby.
What do I love about the snaps?
1) They keep the cover from blowing in the wind and uncovering the baby. This is huge for anyone who likes to walk or run with their baby in-tow!
2) It helps keep the fabric from sinking in and resting on the baby.
Such a simple solution to such huge problems!
2
Nursing Cover
This is one of my very favorite uses for the 3-in-1 Canopy! I went nearly 3 months with this baby without having a proper nursing cover. I just didn’t want to carry around the extra fabric, and usually, I just simply forgot to bring something! Due to that, I would default to tucking blankets in my bra straps and hoping not to flash the rest of society.
I use the 3-in-1 Canopy’s snaps (remember – we used those to prevent the canopy from flying off our baby in the carseat) to snap it around my neck. Because it is fairly large, it provides more than enough coverage. I’ve never felt vulnerable while using it, and it also provides the solitude my baby needs when feeding.
Recommended improvement: I have in this area would be to make the neck hole a little bigger so that I can see baby easier when feeding him. I can see him as is, but it requires me to close one eye and cock my head in just the right way. It’s very attractive. 😉
3
Changing Pad
Having my 3rd baby has really relaxed me in terms of wanting to take the whole kit-and-caboodle for baby. Luckily, the 3-in-1 Canopy caters to moms like me who want to decrease their load. Instead of bringing a fold up changing pad, I just un-velcro the canopy from my carseat and plop in on the floor or changing table, cotton-side down.
4
Play Mat
I’m happy to lay my baby on the plush material for a little tummy time or play time. Because of it’s large size, you can also give your child a few toys to play with without concern that they might hit the floor (which has a questionable cleanliness) around them.
I don’t worry about the cotton being on the floor, because when you put it back on the carseat, it doesn’t face baby.
5
Swaddle
I don’t know about your babies, but 2 out of 3 of mine have LOVED the swaddle. The fact that the 3-in-1 Canopy can also be used as a swaddle has been invaluable to me!
When do I use this feature?
1) At home when I can’t find my normal swaddle blanket (or when it is in the wash),
2) When out longer than expected and baby is having trouble falling asleep in the new environment, and
3) When I’m headed someplace I can’t or don’t want to carry extra gear
6
Swing Cover
It’s finally summer (after a LONG winter, but I won’t get into that), and theswings are so hot that my kids can’t even play on them! It’s heartbreaking to tell a kid who runs directly to the swing when we arrive at the park that he or she can’t ride, because it’s scalding hot!
I removed the canopy from the carseat and snapped both sides of it. I positioned it in the baby/toddler swing so that the snapped holes were accessible and the rest of the fabric laid around the swing. I picked up my 2-year-old and slipped his legs through the holes. Due to the size of the canopy, he was fully protected from the burning hot swing. Relief!!
As you can see, he was pretty stoked.
7
Shopping Cart Cover
“Ick! Blech! Nasty! What’s been here before us?”
If you’re anything like me, that’s what you’re thinking when you stick your kids in the cart. I took the concept of the swing cover and translated it to the shopping cart. Again, close the snaps on either side, put them in line with the holes in the shopping cart, and put your child in the cart. It works fantastic, and the fabric even covers the cart handle so that mama doesn’t have to touch it, either!
8
Blanket
It’s inevitable that I find myself in a position where I need a blanket for the kids – whether it’s on a cold winter day and we want to go on a walk or on a summer day where I’m blasting the A/C in the car and they want nothing to do with it.
Easy peasy! Un-velcro and there we go!
Ok, so it looks like this should really be called the 9-in-1 Canopy!
9
Kid’s Superhero Cape
OK, so this is just a really fun one. This is especially useful when we’re someplace and the kids are losing interest. You know that point in time when you feel it coming? You KNOW there will be a breakdown any moment if you don’t implement a new tactic quickly! This is definitely one of those emergency tactics!
So, What Do I Really Think?
I’m absolutely in love with the 3-in-1 Canopy, and here are my top 3 reasons:
- It has rid me of so many extra accessories! I have a 4 month old, and I don’t even take a diaper bag with me anymore! Instead, I keep an extra outfit, diapers and wipes in my car and carry my baby and the carseat into any location. Freedom!
- It is big enough to give me security when I nurse my child. It’s so frustrating to have a cover (ahem… or a blanket tucked into your bra strap) that makes you feel exposed to the world. This is also extra handy, because the distraction-prone babies who need extra solitude have that with this cover. Due to it’s size, it’s also a large play mat, big enough to swaddle, and big enough to use on toddlers in the car seat and swing.
- It snaps around the handles! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out running or walking with a sleeping baby only to be disturbed by having to bend over the stroller and fix a blown-off canopy over… and… over.
